Water Damage Prevention

Water damages are very often able to be prevented if one stays on top of one’s home and takes the correct precautions. Here are some simple things that one can do.

1. Make sure that your home and pipes are well insulated.

2. Make sure to keep your heat on at least 60 degrees F and drip your faucets if going on vacation.

3. Winterize your sprinkler system by draining it.

4. If you have a sump pump, it should be checked periodically to make sure the water level stays low.

Water Damage Information

Water is one of the most powerful forces in the natural world. The Grand Canyon was created by years of water erosion and constant flowing rivers and streams! As far as water within homes, the damage can be extremely large as well. Mold will only grow if moisture is present, carpet commonly will delaminate, drywall can deteriorate and crumble, too much can cause foundation problems, insulation becomes destroyed when wet and is no longer an insulator, wood rot, if left alone water will create a danger to the  structural integrity of the building or home, and the list goes on.

Mold Information

Molds produce tiny spores in order to spread and reproduce.  If there is a moisture problem within a home, and a mold spore lands on that surface than mold will grow. Mold grows and digests porous, organic materials such as wood, paper, carpet and pad. There is no realistic way to prevent mold spores from entering your home or being around the house.  The only way to prevent mold growth within your home is to control any moisture problems and humidity levels within the home.
